Artist's Statement

My mixed media works capture the fugitive dance between human consciousness and the physical world, preserving fleeting moments of perception and transformation. I create layered compositions, intuitively responding to stimuli from my daily life and surrounding landscape using my body, traditional media, and found materials.

Incorporating real-time observations – light, shadow, sound, and the inherent vitality of my materials – I reflect the nuanced interplay of our internal and external worlds. Painting a passing shadow directly onto the canvas exemplifies this process, fixing a transient moment and inviting viewers to contemplate the metamorphosis of experience. I am fascinated by the potential for these captured instances to become portals within the work; the shadow becomes a figure, a tree, a part of a machine, demonstrating the infinite nature of reality.

My recent explorations focus on channels – the flow of water, the currents of thought and feeling, lunar patterns, and volcanic formations. Working often on raw, unstretched canvas deepens the interaction between my work and its environment. The canvas becomes a sculptural fabric, flowing freely and allowing mark-making directly from objects in the room. In other instances, the canvas is worked and stretched to its limit, holding the tension inherent in its materials.

Experiencing this act of transference in the process of creating leads me to consider how the work may serve as a connective tissue between people, places, dimensions, timelines.
